Benefits of Bone Broth

What is bone broth?

If you’ve never heard of bone broth or have wanted to make it but just never have, the Fall season is a wonderful time to try it! Bone broth can be used in so many soups and stew recipes! Also, it’s a delicious drink warmed up in a mug with high-quality sea salt!

But what is bone broth? I won’t spend time differentiating between the benefits of stocks versus broths. Both are wonderfully nourishing foods when made at home from high-quality ingredients. Bone broth is broth made from the water and bones of animals, slow-cooked in a stockpot over a lengthy amount of time. Vegetables like onions, celery, and carrots can be added to the broth while it cooks for added flavor and nutrients. The bones and vegetables are removed from the stockpot and what you have left is broth!

Benefits of Homemade Bone Broth

Homemade bone broth, whether it is canned, frozen, or fresh is a healthier option than store-bought broth. Store-bought broths often contain added preservatives and ingredients that are not beneficial to your health. The quality of salt used in store-bought broth is not usually the healthy mineral salt you want to be using. By making your broth at home, you can eliminate harmful ingredients and preservatives while adding exactly what you want to make your broth nutrient-dense. Using a variation of joints, marrow bones, and the like can add other beneficial nutrients like collagen, minerals, and more. Drinking bone broth daily can have great health benefits in the long run. Broth can help reduce inflammation in the joints and improve bone health overall, especially broth made with animal joint bones. It’s the old but wise concept of “like supports like”.  You eat the part of the animal that you need support in yourself.

Conclusion & Other Resources

Bone broth overall is a powerhouse food full of healing nutrients. I encourage you to invest time in learning to make broth and drinking it as a daily ritual. In time, the broth will speak for itself. To understand more about broth and its healing ability, I encourage you to do your own research.
