Bone Broth-The Lazy Girls Guide

March 5th, 2025

Bone broth- a very nutrient dense food, that is far easier to make than you might think!

Below, I will teach you how to simply, quickly, and if you’re a momma like me-mindlessly prepare a chicken bone broth that’s ready to cook in 2 minutes flat!

First let’s cover what you’ll need. You should have all these shelf-stable ingredients at home- minus the chicken of course.. Not too many people have whole chickens just readily available. And if you do- Kudos to you, friend, you are far more crunchy than I!

Ingredients:
-One whole chicken
-Garlic powder
-Onion Powder
-Salt
-Vinegar
-Water

Tools:
-A crock pot

-3 Stainless steel bowls- large, medium, small

-A stainless Steel strainer

-1 small stainless steel or wooden ladle

-1 half gallon mason jar

Grab your crock pot, place the chicken inside. If you buy your chicken from the store it will most likely have a bag stuffed inside containing giblets. Remove those from the bag and place inside the pot for extra nutrients! Next, I just eyeball everything else. Toss in your garlic, onion, salt, and a splash of vinegar. Fill to the brim with water.

Set your crockpot on LOW and let it simmer undisturbed for 15 hours. Through trial and error, that seems to be the magic number for me. Adjust to your liking.

Once your 15 hours are up, turn off your crockpot. Using slotted spoons, carefully remove the giblets into your medium bowl, and the chicken into your large bowl. Be careful, the broth is extremely hot! I use the spoons to kind of separate the chicken to help it cool quicker. Allow the chicken to cool till it’s easy to handle. Once cooled, separate the bones into your small bowl and any scraps into your medium bowl. The scraps we feed our dog, and the bones we toss. I wait at least an hour before handling the broth.

Setting your strainer on top of your mason jar, slowly ladle your broth into the jar. (You will get some buildup in the strainer, I just add that to the scrap bowl).

That is it, my friend! You now have broth to either simply drink or incorporate into meals. As well as, shredded chicken is readily available for all kinds of purposes! Enjoy!
