Zero Waste Deep Dive-Bathroom

February 12th, 2025
We recently did a blog post on what zero waste is, and how to get started. But what if you’ve already been implementing a lot of zero waste things in your life for a period of time now, and need some new motivation? I got you.
We are starting a series on taking a zero waste deep dive, and covering swaps you probably never would have thought about!
As Jessica covered in the original zero waste post- you have your basics: Reusable grocery bags, composting, thrifting items, recycling, etc. But what if you went deeper? Keep in mind- these are things swapped over years of working at it. So take your time, and be patient with yourself!
This Week- Your Bathroom!
Toilet paper: Buying bamboo toilet paper that comes with no plastic packaging. You could burn, compost, or recycle the packaging.
Toothbrush: Swap out that harmful plastic toothbrush for one made of bamboo! Compostable, and far more healthy!
Toothpaste: Swap out that gooey plastic tube of paste for tablets or powders!
Shampoo / conditioner / Soaps: Swap out your bottles of hair care products and body / hand soaps for bars! Not only do you help the environment by not contributing to the plastic problem- you also make traveling easier, and save way more space in your shower!
(Bonus tip- using a tallow based bar is healthier on your body, and you can support small farms / local businesses by purchasing locally!)
Deodorant:
One of my personal more recent swaps- a bar deodorant! Comes in a compostable package, and has no plastic involved! (If the idea of using a bar is too big a step, you can also purchase deodorant that comes in a thicker cardboard type material that is compostable!)
Razor: Swapping out disposable razors for a safety razor is not only eco friendly, but saves you money! When you have used up a blade- recycle it when you are done!
Wakeup Remover wipes: A simple swap easier on your face, and the planet!
Menstrual Cup / Reusable pads: Saving a lot of money and better for your body, a win win all around!
We have all these items listed in our shop under the “Zero Waste” category!
