Zero Waste Deep Dive-Kitchen

February 19th, 2025
To continue our zero waste deep dive series we are covering your kitchen! What swaps might you consider? See below!
Kitchen:
Dish Soap: Bar dish soap lasts longer, and doesn’t have plastic packaging!
Bamboo / compostable/ Natural / or metal scrubbing materials:
You can buy natural sponges made from Loofa plants, compostable sponges, steel wool, or bamboo bristle brushes for cleaning your dishes. Not only is this non toxic for your health, it keeps micro plastics out of our water supply!
Food Storage: Next time you run out of ziplocks or cling wrap, don’t buy them again! Buy glass containers with natural lids, or bees wax wraps for all your foot storage needs! Another very handy thing to have around are silicone bowl covers that come in varying sizes. They are air tight, and easy to wash! (Link in our zero waste category in the shop!)
Metal straws: Ditch those single use plastic or paper straws for stainless steel!
Buying in Bulk: Most large cities have bulk stores you can bring refillable bags / jars to refill. Things such as coffee, nuts, oats, and even dried fruits.
Garbage bags: You can swap your regular plastic garbage bags for compostable ones
Bar Dish Soap: An easy swap that also saves money because you don’t use as much as liquid!
Reusable paper towels: An eco and wallet friendly swap! You can find a couple different styles on our shop page!
Zero waste coffee: You can switch out your single use Coffee pods for reusable ones. A stainless steel french press. Stainless steel percolator. Or a pour over Kemex with a stainless steel filter.
Buying food without packaging: Opt out of single use packaging for free fruits / veggies. You can also contact a local farmer for meat you could receive in compostable paper.
Not everything can be bought with zero waste in mind. Reuse what you can, recycle what you can’t, and burn or compost the rest!
All of these items covered can be found in our zero waste category of the shop page!
